Tourism in Martinique

The island of Martinique is a small piece of France set on a lush Caribbean island. Once a French colony, which was occasionally occupied by the British, France declared it to be a French Department in 1946, meaning that the island and its people are treated exactly the same as a suburb of Paris. Visitors travel to Martinique for its spectacular tropical scenery, its sandy beaches and the outstanding snorkeling and diving around its shores.
